According to a report on the Financial Times website on September 9, Trump is increasing his tariff threats once he enters the White House, which has once again raised concerns that the trade war will once again hit the global economy hard during his administration.

Trump, who is trying to win blue-collar votes in swing states, has intensified his protectionist rhetoric and bluntly warned US trading partners, including the European Union, to raise tariffs. According to reports, Trump warned on the 7th that he would impose a 100% tariff on goods exported to the United States from countries that no longer use the US dollar. This could threaten many developing economies.

He said at a rally in Wisconsin: "I would say, 'If you don't use the dollar, you can't do business with the United States. Because we're going to impose a 100% tariff on your goods.'" The report also stated that he said at the Economic Club of New York on the 5th: "I think if we lose the world currency status of the dollar, it's equivalent to losing a war."

Trump has again brought out his "America First" economic agenda as he campaigns against Democratic candidate Harris, vowing to impose tariffs of up to 20% on all imports. "Foreign countries may not be comfortable with the level of tariffs I'm proposing, but they will get used to it pretty quickly," he said in New York last week.

The report said that a former trade official familiar with Trump's trade thinking said that Trump could also restore Biden's suspended tariffs on EU steel, aluminum and other goods. European officials warned that they already have countermeasures.
