During the Paris Olympics, France's public security issues have attracted much attention, with frequent thefts, and thieves even targeting athletes who came to participate. Recently, thieves have extended their hands to a "big shot" - a member of the Qatari royal family. According to a July 28 report by Le Parisien, the sister-in-law of Qatar's Emir (head of state) Tamim was robbed in France, and the stolen items included 11 luxury brand Hermès bags.
It is reported that the sister-in-law of the Emir of Qatar boarded a high-speed train to Paris in Cannes, southern France, with a servant on the 27th. Not long after, about 12 noon, she found that her suitcase had been stolen, which contained "very valuable personal belongings" - 11 Hermès bags, and some valuable personal belongings.
The train stopped at Toulon station to search for the stolen items. The judicial police in Toulon joined the search, but they could not find the bags or the thieves. The train had to start again after more than 20 minutes. Currently, the theft has been handed over to the French National Police in Toulon for further investigation.
It is reported that the French National Railway Company was unwilling to comment on the matter and refused to disclose the surveillance data on the theft of luggage on the train. The company responded: "The French National Railway Company is not responsible for the loss or theft of (passenger belongings). Passengers are responsible for taking care of their luggage."
This theft reflects the serious theft in France. Although the French authorities have mobilized a large number of police forces to ensure the smooth progress of the Paris Olympics, various thefts still occur one after another. On July 22, a doctor from the Czech Olympic delegation went to the police station to report that he went to the supermarket to shop and found that only the lock of his locked bicycle was left. Fortunately, the police later caught the thief, who was a person with no fixed residence and had many criminal records of drug trafficking and theft. On the evening of July 23, in a gymnasium in Saint-Etienne, a 23-year-old athlete from the Argentine Olympic delegation had his watch and ring stolen from the locker room. The watch was worth 40,000 euros (about 314,000 yuan) and the ring was worth 10,000 euros (about 79,000 yuan). The police found that there was no sign of forced entry at the scene of the theft, and the relevant investigation is still ongoing. At that time, the Argentine delegation was training there. On the evening of July 25, former Brazilian football star Zico was also stolen. He left his hotel in Paris and took a taxi, carrying a small box with him containing cash, jewelry, watches, etc., worth 500,000 euros (about 3.929 million yuan). When the taxi driver was not paying attention, a thief stole the box that Zico was carrying.
According to Paris police, during large-scale sports events such as the Olympics, there is a large flow of people, so we must be especially vigilant against theft. Generally speaking, do not leave bags containing documents and money with you, and be especially careful when carrying small bags or backpacks in crowded places to prevent theft. In fact, the most important thing is people's own vigilance, which is the best prevention. Even when dining in a restaurant, you should pay attention to whether your clothes, bags, mobile phones, etc. are safely placed.
Some police officers also said that Paris attracts a large number of tourists every year, and therefore has become a favorite place for international theft criminal groups. Although the police have recently strengthened their crackdown and preventive measures, it is indeed difficult to eliminate such phenomena. It is hoped that athletes and tourists from all countries can be more vigilant and have a full awareness of theft prevention.
