On September 5th local time, Hunter Biden, son of US President Biden, pleaded guilty to nine charges in his federal tax case.
Previously, Hunter Biden was charged with nine federal tax crimes in December last year, including failure to declare and pay taxes, tax evasion, and filing false or fraudulent tax returns. There were three felonies and six misdemeanors in the nine counts. The indictment stated that Hunter Biden failed to pay at least $1.4 million in federal taxes in the four years from 2016 to 2019, and evaded tax assessments for the 2018 tax year by filing false returns around February 2020.
The office of U.S. Special Counsel David Weiss has accused Hunter Biden, son of U.S. President Joe Biden, of accepting bribes from a Romanian businessman who tried to "influence U.S. government agencies" while his father was vice president.
Prosecutor Weiss mentioned in court documents disclosed on the 7th that Hunter Biden provided legal services to Romanian businessman Gabriel Popovich, who was facing corruption charges at the time, in late 2015. Weiss said Hunter Biden and his business partners received more than $3 million in compensation from Popovich, which was paid between November 2015 and 2017.
The documents state that Hunter Biden and his business partners were concerned that their lobbying work could have political influence on Joe Biden and structured the deals to "obscure the true nature of the work being performed."
On June 11 local time, a U.S. federal jury ruled that all three federal felony gun charges faced by President Biden's son Hunter Biden were guilty, finding that he had violated laws designed to prevent drug addicts from owning guns.
Hunter Biden, 54, is the first child of a sitting U.S. president to be criminally charged. U.S. federal special prosecutor David Weiss accused him last September of lying when filling out a gun purchase background check form in October 2018 to buy a revolver, concealing the fact that he was "taking illegal drugs" at the time, that is, taking drugs. Hunter Biden was charged with three federal felonies, the first two of which involved lying when buying a gun, and the last one accused him of illegally possessing a gun as a drug addict.
The judge did not announce on the 11th when the specific sentence for Hunter Biden would be announced. It was previously reported that he could face up to 25 years in prison and a fine of up to $750,000.
On August 2, local time, a court document showed that the illegal gun possession case of Hunter Biden, son of US President Biden, will be sentenced on November 13.
