The 2024 US presidential election will be between Vice President Harris and former President Trump. Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. intends to withdraw from the race and support Trump, which may affect the choice of voters in key swing states. Kennedy Jr.'s Chinese female deputy, Nicole Shanahan, said that the Democratic Party is scared and is calling her frantically.
According to Fox News, Shanahan said on social media X on August 22 that her old Democratic friends have been calling, texting and emailing her frantically.
She also said she would not make the private conversations public, but the message from Democrats was clear, "they are afraid we are joining forces with Trump."
She added: “When I point out what the Democrats and their super PACs have done to undermine our campaign, their response is always, ‘But Trump is worse.’ I have an idea: Stop suing us. Let’s debate. Stop rigging the media and the polls. It’s a simple formula and everyone understands it.”
The New York Times and CNN quoted sources on August 21 as saying that Kennedy Jr. is expected to announce his withdrawal from the election on the 23rd and instead support Republican presidential candidate Trump.
Analysts believe that the election results in some key swing states may be affected as a result. According to a national opinion poll conducted by The Hill this week, Kennedy's approval rating is only 8.7%. However, analysts believe that considering the fierce competition between Trump and US Vice President Harris, if Kennedy withdraws from the election, the votes of his supporters may be enough to affect the election results in swing states.
Shanahan, Kennedy's Chinese female deputy, said in an interview on August 20: "We are considering two options. One is to stay and form a new party, but this runs the risk of Harris and Waltz being elected because we take votes away from Trump. Or, we withdraw from the election now and join forces with Trump."
She also added that one of the biggest mistakes she made in her life was supporting the Democratic Party in the past.
Regarding the possibility that Kennedy Jr. might withdraw from the election and support him, Trump said in an interview with CNN on the 20th that he welcomed it and that he has always liked and respected Kennedy Jr. Trump also said that if he wins the election, he might let Kennedy Jr. serve in his government.
Earlier analysis pointed out that Kennedy Jr. might play the role of "kingmaker" in this election. Although he could not get enough support to win the election, he could get enough support in swing states to influence the election results. According to analysis, Kennedy Jr. took away more Trump supporters than Democratic supporters.
