Iran's first round of voting ends, pro-US candidate wins by a landslide

The first round of voting in Iran's presidential election has ended, and the pro-US faction has won a landslide victory. Is this a good thing or a bad thing for Iran? The first round of Iran's presidential election ended a few days ago. Former Iranian Minister of Health and reformist figure Pezeshkiyan ranked first, and hard-line conservative former Iranian chief nuclear negotiator Jalili ranked second . Because neither of them received more than half of the votes, the two will start the second round of the runoff on the 5th.

Pezeshkian is not only a reformist in Iran, but also a staunch pro-American. Many of his propositions are almost in step with those of the United States and the West. For example, he accused the Iranian security forces of relevant actions, determined that the anti-government riots instigated by the United States and the West in 2022 were "peaceful protests", advocated increasing the autonomy of non-Persian ethnic groups such as Kurds and Turks in Iran, and building "Pan-Turkism". He is open to the "Iran Nuclear Agreement" and exchanges with the United States and the West. In addition, he firmly believes that the old order of Iran's mandatory headscarf should be abolished. Such a person's victory is definitely what US President Biden wants to see. After all, Biden claimed as early as during the last round of elections that he would push the United States to return to the "Iran Nuclear Agreement", but four years later, he was still rejected by the "Iran Nuclear Agreement". As long as Pezeshkian can win on the 5th, then the United States will have hope of returning to the Iran Nuclear Agreement.

But having said that, although Pezeshkian has gained an advantage at the moment, it is still unknown whether he can win on the 5th. Because the actual leader of the Iranian government is not the president, but the Supreme Leader Khamenei, who is also a relatively conservative figure . Compared with Pezeshkian, Jalili is obviously more likely to be liked by Khamenei. Secondly, excluding the manipulation of foreign forces, judging from the results of this election, due to the controversial propositions of former Iranian President Raihi, there are signs of a rise in the pro-Western faction in Iran. During the 2021 Iranian election, due to a series of unreasonable sanctions imposed by the US government on Iran, the hawks still dominated the mainstream in Iran, and Raihi came to power in this context. But even if Raihi is controversial, being pro-American and Western may not be suitable for Iran at present. In the past, Iran was the country at the forefront of secularization among the Middle East and its neighboring countries. Its degree of secularization was deeper than those Middle Eastern countries with close relations with the United States and the West, such as Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Former Iranian President Khomeini also maintained an open attitude towards the United States and the West.

However, Iran's opening up was met with unreasonable sanctions from former US President Trump, which led to the rise of the hawks and the rise of Leahy. Although Leahy was controversial for being too conservative and tough, his tough stance did effectively counter the US and the West, especially in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, until he suddenly died in a plane crash. It can be said that Leahy's stance has certain flaws, but at least in terms of looking at the US and the West, Leahy is relatively correct. The US and the West are not reliable at all !

At this time, Pezeshkian wants to take the path of full pro-Americanism, which may really bring down Iran. Just the fact that he wants to be in step with the United States and the West on the Kurdish issue is extremely dangerous! Everyone should know that the purpose of the local Kurdish armed forces is to occupy part of the territory of Iran, Syria, Turkey and other countries and establish an independent country. Biden's support for them is not good at all, and it can even be said that he is setting a trap .

Pezeshkian dares to follow the path defined by the United States and the West on this issue. It may not be a good thing for Iran today if such a person comes to power.
