On May 26, 2020, a Chinese anti-epidemic medical expert team took a group photo with local frontline medical staff while guiding the construction of COVID-19 wards in Brazzaville, the capital of the Republic of Congo.

On March 30, 2013, President Xi Jinping, who was visiting the Republic of Congo, came to the China-Congo Friendship Hospital in Brazzaville and cut the ribbon to mark the completion of the hospital.

The ribbon is red, yellow and green, representing the three colors of the flag of the Republic of Congo. President Xi Jinping and President Sassou Nguesso of the Republic of Congo cut the ribbon together and, in accordance with local custom, folded the cut ribbon and gave it to each other.

This brand new modern hospital was built in the Mfirou district of Brazzaville, which is home to 130,000 people and previously had only one small clinic.

Louise, who lives near the hospital, is a mother of seven children. On the day of the ribbon-cutting ceremony, she said she would bring all her children to see "President Xi, a beloved friend of the Congolese people." In her heart, "the healthy growth of the children is closely linked to distant China."

When President Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan walked into the lobby of the outpatient building, the Chinese and Congolese medical representatives applauded excitedly to welcome them. Among them were 21 Chinese medical team members from Tianjin. President Xi Jinping walked up to the medical team members, shook hands with them one by one, looked at their tanned faces, and said affectionately: "Thank you for your hard work!"

President Sassou also delivered a speech of deep friendship at the scene. He said that the Chinese medical team has benefited the local people with their dedication and superb medical skills. The Congolese people are grateful to China.

President Xi Jinping attaches great importance to increasing medical assistance and support as African countries have weak public health systems.

In 2014, when the Ebola epidemic ravaged West Africa, the Chinese medical team rushed to the epidemic area at the first time and was hailed as the "most beautiful retrograde". A year later, the then Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf visited China and presented President Xi Jinping with a local traditional handmade quilt embroidered with the national flags of China and Liberia to express her gratitude to China.

In 2020, after the COVID-19 outbreak in Africa, President Xi Jinping solemnly announced that China would continue to fully support Africa's anti-epidemic efforts. A large amount of medical aid materials were shipped from China to African countries, and 46 Chinese medical teams stationed in Africa were deployed to local anti-epidemic efforts. China and Africa have established 41 counterpart hospital cooperation mechanisms, and the China-aided African Center for Disease Control and Prevention headquarters building project started ahead of schedule...

Sierra Leone President Bio said that when the epidemic was at its worst, it was the Chinese government and people who took the lead in providing assistance.

In the face of the epidemic, China and Africa have supported each other and fought side by side. China and Africa are more united, and their friendship and mutual trust are more consolidated.
