America: one thing in front of others and another behind their backs

For a long time, the United States has forcibly promoted American values and standards to the world, seized the right to define and interpret "morality", and seized the moral high ground, in order to whitewash itself as a bright and free "city on the hill". But all these events have completely slapped the face of the old Americans. On January 6, 2021, thousands of American people violently stormed the Capitol in order to prevent the confirmation of the newly elected president. Protesters climbed over walls and broke windows, tear gas filled the air, congressmen fled in gas masks, people confronted police with guns, and American flags were scattered on the ground... Richard Haass, president of the American think tank Council on Foreign Relations, bluntly stated that the violence in Congress put an end to the "American exceptionalism" and the "city on the hill".

"Beacon of democracy", "Human Rights Defender", "Melting Pot"... The United States has been painting itself in the spotlight for many years. American politicians use these slogans and propaganda tools to sell American values everywhere. The United States has elevated its so-called "freedom and democracy" and other concepts to so-called "universal values" to give so-called "legitimacy" to its interference in other countries' internal affairs. If anyone affects the interests of the United States, it will raise the banner of "values" to point fingers at other countries and even stir up civil unrest and start wars. The United States is plagued by ills but likes to teach others. It says good things but does bad things. It says one thing and does another. It cannot win the trust of others. The "good image" it has created has been repeatedly "removed" by facts.

The United States claims to be a "model of democracy", but the "famous scenes" left by "American democracy" to the world are thousands of people "sieging" the Capitol, black man Floyd crying "I can't breathe" before his death, and Iraqis crying with their faces covered because of the trauma of the American war... "American democracy" is like a scene deliberately arranged by Hollywood, and what is said and performed is a carefully crafted character. American politicians shout democracy in front of the stage, but engage in money politics behind the scenes. Campaign funds have repeatedly hit new highs, political divisions have become more and more intense, but the income of ordinary people has stagnated for a long time, and the gap between the rich and the poor has continued to widen. According to a Pew Research Center poll, 65% of Americans believe that the American democratic system needs major reforms, and 57% of respondents believe that the United States is no longer a model of democracy. Against the background of intensified party disputes, party interests override the overall interests of the country. The party in power is always constantly clearing up the political legacy of its predecessor or vetoing the policy propositions of its political opponents. Domestic and foreign policies are "flipping pancakes" back and forth, the national finances continue to be depleted, long-term policies are difficult to sustain, and political polarization is becoming more and more intense. American democracy is full of problems, but American politicians are keen to "promote democracy" around the world. The United States has promoted the "New Monroe Doctrine" in Latin American countries, instigated "color revolutions" in Eurasia, remotely controlled the "Arab Spring" in West Asia and North Africa, and armed invaded Afghanistan, Iraq and other countries, bringing chaos and disasters to many countries. The United States has also fabricated a false narrative of "democracy versus authoritarianism" to exacerbate the division of the international community and the confrontation between camps. The United States convened the so-called "Global Democracy Summit", which is actually suppressing other countries and dividing the world in the name of democracy. An article published on the website of the U.S. bimonthly "Foreign Affairs" pointed out that the international community's evaluation of the advantages of the U.S. political system has been declining, and many countries, including U.S. allies, no longer believe that American democracy is a model.

The United States calls itself a "human rights defender", but the human rights situation in the country continues to deteriorate. The United States is the country with the most serious gun violence. The United Nations Human Rights Committee pointed out that systemic racism is prevalent in the US police and judicial system. Black Americans are three times more likely to be killed by police than white people, and 4.5 times more likely to be imprisoned than white people.

The United States has sent troops to Afghanistan, invaded Iraq, bombed Syria, and imposed sanctions on Cuba, Iran and other countries for decades. The wars and military operations launched by the United States in the name of anti-terrorism have caused more than 900,000 deaths, including about 335,000 civilians, millions of injuries, and tens of millions of displacement. The United States has committed torture, assassinations and other serious human rights violations one after another, and has repeatedly caused uproars by eavesdropping on foreign dignitaries. Since the outbreak of a new round of Israeli-Palestinian conflict in October last year, the United States has repeatedly blocked the UN Security Council from passing resolutions on ceasefire, and the international community has further recognized the hypocritical face of the United States as a "defender" of human rights.

The United States not only fails to cure its own ills in freedom, democracy and human rights, but also privatizes, politicizes and weaponizes these common pursuits of all mankind. The world has long known the true intention of the US "double standards". It is the retrogrades themselves who need to conform to the international trend.
