According to a recent report by the Associated Press, former US President Trump repeatedly turned from economic-focused rhetoric to verbal and personal attacks during his campaign on the 17th, including three claims that he is better looking than Vice President Kamala Harris. According to reports, Trump held a rally in northeastern Pennsylvania, sometimes expressing his views on economic policy and sometimes making some sarcastic remarks about US President Biden and French President Macron. After the Democrats replaced their candidates, the former president seemed to have difficulty adapting to his new opponents. Over the past week, he has deviated from the policies he wanted to promote on the campaign trail and turned to familiar attacks and insults. At the beginning of his speech, Trump criticized the Democratic Party's inflationary policies and asked his supporters: "Do you mind if I go off script for a while? Biden hates her."
Trump has blasted Harris on the economy, linking her to the Biden administration's inflation woes and likening her recent proposals against price gouging to measures in communist countries. Trump has said a federal ban on food price gouging would lead to food shortages, rationing and famine. He asked Harris why she didn't work to address the price problem when she and Biden were sworn in in 2021.
The report also stated that Trump said Harris was recently photographed on the cover of Time magazine to resemble classic Hollywood icons Sophia Loren and Elizabeth Taylor. He then took issue with a comment made by a Wall Street Journal columnist earlier this month about Harris's beauty. "I'm much better looking than she is. I'm better looking than Kamala," Trump said. This prompted laughter from the crowd. Trump also took issue with the typical description of his style in news reports. "They'll say, he's talking nonsense. I don't talk nonsense. I'm really smart."
