The US media broke the news that the Biden administration lifted the ban on the use of US-supplied weapons by the Ukrainian "Azov Battalion" many years ago . Previously, the "Azov Battalion" was banned from using US-supplied weapons because of the racism, xenophobia and extreme nationalism of some of its founders, and was accused of violating humanitarian regulations by UN human rights officials. However, now the US State Department stated that after a comprehensive review, the 12th Special Forces Azov Assault Brigade of Ukraine passed their "Leahy Act" review , and they also claimed that no human rights violations were found in the " Azov Battalion".

Russia said that there are neo-Nazis in the "Azov Battalion" and that they need to de-Nazify it. For a long time, the "Azov Battalion" has been controversial.
